Tips For How to Prepare & Getting the Most Out of Your Boudoir Experience

Now that you’ve booked your boudoir experience, you’re probably asking yourself what do I have to do to prepare for my boudoir shoot?  I know this is a totally new thing for most women so I want to help you feel prepared and confident every step of the way. These suggestions will help ease and organize your mind and prepare you for this awesome experience!

Here we GO!

Make sure your all set to go for hair and make-up.

I work with some awesome people who will make your experience with me the best possible. They are not only amazing at what they do, but they are cool people who will but your nerves to rest with their warm personalities. I hand pick these people to enhance what I do and we make a pretty awesome team if I do say so myself. ;)

I tell every woman who books a shoot that if you forget everything I’ve told you about prepping and can remember one thing this is the most important. Come to the shoot with clean, DRY hair and a clean face. That way the makeup/hair artist can begin right away.

Don’t obsess over learning how to pose - I will handle all the posing

You’re not a model, so I don’t expect you to come up with poses and pose well. That’s my job as a professional photographer. I know how to pose women in ways that will accentuate your best assets. I will demonstrate the pose and all you have to do is mirror me. It’s that easy! Your body will be in poses that it normally is not in, which can be a work out! Just trust that even if it feels uncomfortable, we know how to pose you so that you look amazing! If you want to find your best angles in a mirror then go for it!

If there’s a particular pose you want to try then let me know and we will try it out. I’m all for experimenting and having fun!

Pick clothes that you would actually wear AND also what suits your body type.

Finding the right clothes to bring can be one of the most nerve wracking parts of this experience. Don’t obsess over looking like a model, but focus on what you want to highlight about yourself.. We can make anything into a boudoir outfit. When in doubt, bring something that you already have that you LOVE yourself in! Maybe its that bra that you bought once but never wear because you can see it through your shirts. It could even be a pair boy shorts with a chunky sweater that shows off your casual side. Choose things that accentuate your body AND makes you feel great! This is important because if you don’t feel comfortable and amazing then it will show in the pictures and you’re not going to like the way you look.

Bring sentimental items.

If you are doing this shoot for your significant other than it’s always a great idea to bring something that is important to him/her. Whether it’s his teams jersey or the lingerie he bought you for your first anniversary, he will LOVE those pictures.

Don’t forget the accessories, heels and jewelry.

With the busyness of packing don’t forget your shoes, and your jewelry! You can bring hair pieces, hats, knee high socks, or even men’s ties! This is where your personality can really shine through!

Sexy doesn’t have to mean lingerie.

Some people don’t wear a lot of lingerie and it might not be your style.  There are so many other options than lingerie and my clients love to explore this and come up with some fun outfit. If you don’t own any lingerie, then chances are you are not a lingerie type of woman which is OK! Find what sexy means to you and create your own style. If you want a more laid back style maybe try sweaters, your partners favorite t-shirt, or we can simply wrap you only in a white sheet . It doesn’t make the session any less sexy or beautiful if you don’t go the lingerie route.

Let me know ahead of time if there is a problem area for you and what you are uncomfortable doing.

Last but NOT least, make sure I know what parts of your body that you’d like to highlight and which parts you’d rather hide. After photographing many, many women I am very aware of what parts women generally don’t like having photographed. I completely understand the feeling of being insecure about a certain body part. But it just one part of my whole body. I don’t want you to be hyper focused on it, but I will always be sensitive to these insecurities that we all have,. If you feel insecure about your ears, then we’ll make sure when you move around that your ears aren’t showing, this sort of thing. If you tell us that your significant other loves your lower back or butt, then we can make sure to showcase that in some of your shots!
